Competition Overview

Help us prepare for EAST Conference 2019 by graphically representing the new Conference theme:

EAST 360°: A Revolution in Education

What is a Logo?

A logo is a graphic representation of a theme, concept or identity, that brands a company or event for marketing purposes. It may be a type treatment, an icon or a combination of both. Logos should be easily reproduced for a variety of mediums including printed items and digital purposes like websites, and on different materials that may include paper or fabrics like shirts or bags. Take some time to research and be inspired before designing a logo to submit.

Logo Competition Guidelines

The logo should be a graphic representation of the theme. Other things to think about when brainstorming your design:

  • This is the 20th annual EAST Conference.
  • Students from second grade to beyond high school participate in EAST.
  • Remember our EAST principals: Education Accelerated by Service and Technology.
  • Do not use the acronym E.A.S.T.
  • EAST needs to be all uppercase.
  • Do not use the “L” word! We have EAST Classrooms or EAST Programs - not labs!

Tips for creating a logo:

  • Make sure your design communicates the Conference theme.
  • KISS – Keep It Simple Simon. Use simple shapes and typefaces.
  • Typography is important – make wise choices when selecting your font. Use no more than one to two fonts. Free fonts can be downloaded at
  • Do not use photographs.
  • Remember this is a Logo - not a Poster! Click HERE for examples!
  • Use a distinct color scheme (one to three colors max) and consider color tones. Strong color contrast makes a logo more visually appealing. If you use more than one color, please also provide a one color version.
  • Use negative space effectively.

Artwork MUST be original

  • You are welcome to get ideas from the Internet and elsewhere but do not use another designer's work!
  • No clip art please! Use the tools in your classroom, such as Adobe Illustrator or another vector drawing program.

File specifications

  • Make sure your logo is created in vector format (.ai or .eps), so it can be printed in large formats (signs, banners, etc.)
  • Adobe Illustrator (.ai)
  • Encapsulated PostScript (.eps)
  • Send your ORIGINAL document with layers intact. Do not merge layers.
  • Include type fonts, or at least the names of fonts used.
  • Provide JPG proof along with the vector file.
  • Provide the design on a light background and on a dark background.
  • You may be asked to revise your design for reproduction or other issues. Be sure to keep original work.
  • Name your file using your first and last name (example: If you submit more than one file, follow the same guidelines and add a number at the end. (example:,, etc.).

Think of all the possibilities! Remember, the logo will be featured prominently on the website, t-shirts, banners and more. Make sure your logo will work on any background color and in any media/type.
